responsible care
Brief history
The initiative for Responsible Care® was taken in Canada in 1985. The program was designed to encourage better business practices. The concept soon traveled to the US, where its principles were endorsed by the members of the Chemical Manufacturers Association. Since then it has spread throughout Europe and the rest of the world. ExxonMobil Chemical signed the national manifest in every country in which they operate. Therefore including Belgium and the Netherlands.
What is Responsible Care?
Responsible Care is a pledge by the chemical industry to continuously improve its performance with respect to health, safety and environmental awareness. The cornerstone of the Responsible Care partnership is the signing of a charter containing 'Policy Principles' by the Chief Executives of all the participating companies. In this way they confirm that their company believes improved performance in the area of safety, health and environmental care is an integral part of general operational management.
They also promise to raise the awareness of this issue among all the employees and contractors. The performance is improved through voluntary initiatives, self-assessment, training, active participation in the community and the development of 'best practices'
Responsible Care® is a registered trademark of the American Chemistry Council (ACC), formerly the Chemical Manufacturers Association (CMA).
